CalArts Center for New Performance directed by Travis Preston is the multidisciplinary production department of the CalArts school established in Los Angeles. Intense, contemporary and funny, Fore! Is the fruit of four workshops between the CalArts University of Los Angeles and the Comédie de Saint-Etienne. Under the guidance of Arnaud Meunier and the brilliant young American writer, Aleshea Harris, this international troupe has embarked on an exploration of the values and visions of today’s world.
What makes us a society? Where do our democracies stand in such a “connected” and globalised world, marked by events like 9/11 and Charlie Hebdo in France? Through Orestes and the great characters of ancient theatre, the actors flesh out the play with their own life experiences, becoming the very fibre of this creative performance. The troupe straddles current concerns with all of the vitality of the young and an unshakable will to pull through.
