The tnn is delighted to welcome this exceptional Georgian artist who leaves some truly unforgettable and stunning images imprinted on our hearts.
World famous puppeteer Rezo Gabriadze revisits the battle for Stalingrad to breathe life into his universal requiem. This artiste has chosen to create fantastical scenes portraying the fleeting beauty of life, by delving into one of the bloodiest episodes of the Second World War.
On stage, the sand brings to mind a snowy expanse where creatures made out of porcelain, papier mâché and scraps of cloth emerge, exquisitely handled by their puppeteer. We come across Stalin, Generalissimo of the Soviet Union; a star of the circus; somebody peddling lemonade and two loved-up horses searching for happy sanctuary amongst all the chaos….. The intensity of Existence is portrayed in brief, poetic scenes accompanied by folk music and the moving voices of Georgian actors. The play plots its course between dream and reality, the past and the present, despair and humour.
Some theatre artists are unlike any other. Rezo Gabriadze is one of these. Alexis Soloski, New York Times
