This great choreographer, renowned for his audacity, gives free rein to his faithful accomplice the composer Fabrizio Cassol. Together, they adapt the repertoire of cult Western music in a fusion of Mozart, opera and popular African polyphonies.
The production conveys the beauty and emotion of goodbye-rituals in this eclectic mix of South African singers, Congolese musicians, tuba and accordion. Fourteen spellbinding performers take to the stage in this sensitive and creative musical gem that successfully transcends all barriers and positively touches on the divine.

Alain Platel shakes up Mozart’s Requiem to unleash an intense burst of joy as we travel between Africa and the West. Through the mourning ceremony we find a sublime and courageous celebration of Life.

« The fusion of these very different worlds, with the associated risks, seemed to us to have been carried off with tremendous sensitivity: Mozart’s Requiem, this cult work, is seen afresh – it is both Africanized and even more universal. »

« The show stays with you, into the night, through to the following morning and the whole of the next day. It leaves a strong aftertaste, colours your thoughts, your daydreams.. For their fifth scenic journey together, blending Western and African repertoires, Alain Platel and Fabrizio ¬Cassol hit hard. The one hour and forty minutes that their vision of Mozart’s Requiem lasts has all the trappings of eternity. »
