Once upon a time, there was a theatre where the words decided to run away. Azerty, a playwright, and an actress called Zoémie go to look for them. It doesn’t take long for them to realize that words are shy, that they have their own personalities and maybe even a soul. They meet the Big Dictionary who is terrified of becoming a mere pocket version of his former self. He tells them about forgotten words, words that have simply disappeared like “emberlucoquer”, “abscons” or “didascalie »…
Treading gently and in a poetic way, this wacky piece invites us all to get to know the riches of the French language. Words cascade from the dictionary like new characters that need taming. They are played and sung: bringing a smile to our faces, a feeling of surprise and intrigue. The BAL theatre company are fabulously artful in getting children to see the wonder of words.
Language is a living thing and words spring to life. In Azerty, the words and the Big Dictionary speak to one another, playing verbal ping pong and the audience take part in a quest where they get to have their say. Christine Parasote, La Strada
